The ANZ is an absolutely incompetent disgrace. The ANZ ceased to send (without warning) my hard-copy bank statements and has failed to provide me with Internet banking facilities. I am unable to access my bank account. When I telephone ANZ customer service I am told that I must go to a local branch - despite being elderly and very vulnerable to serious ill-health if I contract the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19. I was told that the ONLY way I can gain access to my ANZ bank account is to email a copy of my passport or drivers license to the ANZ - despite email being less than secure and the provision of identifying documents via email is a security risk. When I stated this, the ill-mannered, rude customer service employee hung up the phone and rudely disconnected the call. Next step will be a formal written complaint to the ANZ CEO Shane Elliott, followed by a written complaint to the Financial Services Industry Ombudsman as I have been trying to access my account for 2 years. Fortunately, I have a second bank account with a more reliable and helpful competitive bank - otherwise, I would have no funds for living expenses. Avoid the ANZ as the customer service is appalling and the bank is incompetent.
I am a member and Treasurer of a local service club in Devonport Tasmania and we have been banking with ANZ for about 10-11 years. Prior to Christmas I received advice that our club needed to have all signatories visit the bank to provide proof of identity or our services would be affected. Due to the poor service we had been receiving we decided to change to another banking institution. As the Christmas period intervened it has taken a little linger to set up accounts at our new institution. In the meantime (without warning) ANZ decided to stop honouring our cheques which has resulted in some of our suppliers to stop supply. On enquiring with the local ANZ branch, we were advised that our accounts had been suspended until signatories provided proof of identity. I visited the branch today to ask whether all outstanding matters had been resolved and was told I would have to make an appointment. What very poor customer service this is to make customers attend at the bank's convenience. We will be so pleased when we dont need to use ANZ again.
This company is totally incompetent. I have forwarded mail to the sender of the previous occupant of this house. I have returned it to the ANZ. I have rung the bank. I have written to the CEO. I have visited the local branch. I have had email conversations with the CEO, still the mail keeps coming. If they can't do something as simple as changing an address, why would you trust them with your money? Avoid if you want basic customer service.
